House rules

Eating well, de jure.

De iure is Latin for “by right”. In here, three articles apply.

  1. Art. 1

    Nobody leaves hungry.

Portions are osteria-sized, which is to say generous.

  2. Art. 2

    The bill is honest.

You eat well and pay a fair price, with no surprises at the end.

  3. Art. 3

    Leave the tie at home.

A table, a glass, a chat: an osteria is a place to feel at ease.

Specialities

Seven dishes to get to know us

The dining room with yellow walls, rush-seated chairs and a brick arch opening onto the counter and its bottles.

The osteria

A neighbourhood osteria, with the door open.

A small seafood and Triestine restaurant: a cosy dining room with a brick arch, a counter for a glass and a few tables outside, under the awning.

Since 5 September 2026 the osteria has been under new management, with the same old idea: Triestine and Mediterranean cooking, plenty of fish, home-style dishes and generous portions. People come for lunch, for dinner and for a bite in between – for a plate of tagliatelle with langoustines, or just a breaded snack and a glass at the counter.

Sea and tradition

Between the Adriatic and Central Europe

In Trieste, food is a crossroads: fish from the Adriatic, recipes from Venice and Istria, flavours that came down from Vienna.

  • Spaghetti with a tomato and fish sauce and parsley, with a glass of white wine.

    The sea

Clams, sardines, langoustines: fish, cooked simply.

  • A dish of patate in tecia browned with pancetta.

    Tradition

Patate in tecia, sardoni in savor: the taste of home.

  • Goulash on a plate printed with La De Jure.

    Central Europe

Goulash and breaded everything: the Trieste that looks to Vienna.

The counter

A breaded bite and a chat.

You don’t have to sit down to stop by. At the counter you can have a rebechin – Triestine for a snack – standing up, even in a hurry.

In the display case every day: breaded aubergines and courgettes, meatballs, pork loin (ombolo), breaded creamed cod and breaded chicken.

The Triestine buffet

The counter display with breaded aubergines, courgettes and pork loin, meatballs, the coffee machine and the beer taps.
